Reclaiming the banks of the sacred Vaigai river through volunteer-driven cleanliness and stewardship.

The Vaigai River is not merely a watercourse; it is the spiritual and agricultural lifeblood of southern Tamil Nadu. Over years of rapid urbanization, debris and single-use plastics have accumulated along its banks.

Green Trust’s Vaigai Riverfront Cleaning Programme brought together college NSS cadets, youth volunteers, and civic workers for intensive debris clearance drives, removing tons of non-biodegradable waste.

Action at Daybreak

Beginning before the heat of the day, teams swept riverbank corridors, intercepting plastic waste before monsoon waters could carry it downstream into agricultural irrigation tanks.

Long-Term Riverbank Advocacy

Beyond physical cleanups, the campaign established permanent awareness boards and engaged riverside merchant associations to prevent recurrent waste dumping.

““Keeping the Vaigai clean is keeping our cultural memory and water future alive.””
